NAHPF to Distribute 1,000 Hispanic Scholarship Directories at the “Feria Educativa” El Paso
Washington DC---April 20, 2004--The National Association of Hispanic Publications Foundation, in partnership with the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund, continues to partner with the White House Initiative for Education Excellence for Hispanic. NAHPF will distribute 1,000 Hispanic Scholarship Directory CD-ROMS at this year’s fourth Educational Fair, which will take place at the University of Texas at El Paso.
Over the past four months, NAHPF has already given over 4,000 directories in New York, NY; San Diego, CA; Miami, FL; Albuquerque, NM; and Tucson, AZ.
In addition, over 10,000 Hispanic Scholarship Directories were distributed apart from the educational fair with the support of DaimlerChrysler in southern California. Several thousands more were given out with the support of Exelon Corporation, Southern California Edison, the National Education Association and the American Association of Community Colleges.
The directory contains over 1,200 funding sources including 758 new or updated listings, an introduction by noted actor and activist Edward James Olmos, and an informative financial aid calendar.
“The directory is an instrumental tool enabling the Hispanic youth to realize their dream of a higher education,” said NAHPF Chairman Eddie Escobedo, Sr.
For the past eight years, NAHPF has provided resources for education programs such as scholarships, internships and the Hispanic scholarship directory.
“NAHPF has been a strong supporter of the Educational Fair since it started in 2003. We have also developed many educational projects at UTEP such as our new bilingual news service Web site. It’s a pleasure for NAHPF to be working closely in various education programs and have the opportunity to address them at the same place,” Tom Oliver, NAHPF Executive Director and CEO.
NAHPF is particularly pleased to be partnering with “El Diario” in El Paso t reach out to our Hispanic community there.
The El Paso Educational Fair will take place on April 24 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It will be hosted by MANA, Girls Scouts, UTEP, the Department of Education and State Farm Insurance Company. The one-day event includes workshops and forum discussions about college opportunities for Hispanics and bilingual resources for students, parents and educators.
The series is part of the White House Initiative on Education Excellence for Hispanic-Americans, a partnership that includes the nation's leading Hispanic organizations, corporate leaders and national private entities that support the improvement of education for Hispanics in the United States.
